안용규후보는 구윤철 기획재정부장관을 만나 면담을 갖고 태권도장의 활성화를 위해 지원을 요청했다.

Dr. Yongkyu Ahn, candidate for the presidency of Kukkiwon, underscored the urgent need for active government support to secure the future development of Taekwondo.

On September 12, Dr. Ahn met with Minister of Economy and Finance Yoon-cheol Koo at the Government Complex to address the difficulties facing domestic Taekwondo dojangs and to present practical measures for strengthening the sport’s international prestige. He requested both institutional and financial cooperation from the government.

During the meeting, Dr. Ahn stated, “Although Taekwondo is an official Olympic discipline and a martial art that represents the Republic of Korea worldwide, domestic dojangs are struggling with management difficulties. It is now time for Kukkiwon and the government to join forces to safeguard Taekwondo schools and to further solidify its global stature.”

He specifically highlighted the need for:
Budgetary support to stabilize dojang management
Improvements in the promotion and dan/poom examination system
Development of modernized curricula aligned with current trends
Expanded global dissemination projects

Dr. Ahn stressed that without financial and institutional backing, even the most ambitious reform initiatives at Kukkiwon would fail to yield fundamental results. He called for policy-level consideration from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Furthermore, he emphasized that Taekwondo transcends its role as a martial art, serving as a key asset of K-culture and a pillar of national branding. “Over 213 countries around the world practice Taekwondo, and this has played a decisive role in enhancing Korea’s cultural presence. The global expansion and establishment of Taekwondo’s status are directly linked to elevating Korea’s national image. The government must regard Taekwondo as a national strategic priority.”

During the meeting, Dr. Ahn also explained the global value of Taekwondo and Kukkiwon’s responsibility, urging continued governmental attention and cooperation. Minister Yoon-cheol Koo is reported to have responded by noting the government’s willingness to carefully review potential areas of cooperation, including utilization of the Taekwondowon, support for international competitions, and stabilization of local Taekwondo dojang operations.

Concluding the meeting, Dr. Ahn reaffirmed his commitment: “I understand the struggles of Taekwondo dojangs and instructors better than anyone. The survival of these schools is the very foundation of Taekwondo’s future, and it is directly tied to Korea’s global standing. Together with the government, I will establish a sustainable support system for dojangs and take the lead in enhancing Taekwondo’s international reputation.”

This meeting marks a significant first step in Dr. Ahn’s efforts to realize his vision of Kukkiwon reform through government collaboration. He announced plans to continue engaging with various stakeholders and presenting concrete strategies for the advancement of Taekwondo.

[경북정치신문=이세연 기자] 국기원장 선거에 출마한 안용규 후보가 태권도의 미래 발전을 위해 정부 차원의 적극적인 지원이 필요하다고 목소리를 높였다.

안 후보는 지난 12일 정부 청사에서 구윤철 기획재정부 장관을 직접 만나 국내 도장 경영의 어려움과 태권도의 국제적 위상 강화를 위한 현실적 대책을 설명하고, 정부의 제도적, 재정적 협력을 요청했다.

안 후보는 면담에서 “태권도는 올림픽 정식 종목이자 대한민국을 대표하는 세계적 무도임에도 불구하고, 정작 국내의 태권도장은 경영난으로 어려움을 겪고 있다”며 “이제는 국기원과 정부가 함께 나서 태권도장을 지켜내고 태권도의 국제적 위상을 더욱 공고히 해야 한다”고 강조했다.

그는 특히, △도장의 경영 안정화를 위한 예산 지원 △승·품단 심사체계 개선 △시대 흐름에 맞는 교육과정 개발 △세계 각국에서의 보급 활성화 사업 등을 체계적으로 추진하기 위해 정부 지원이 반드시 필요하다고 설명했다.

안 후보는 “국기원이 자체적으로 혁신안을 추진한다 해도 재정과 제도의 뒷받침이 없다면 근본적 성과를 내기 어렵다”며 기재부 차원의 정책적 배려를 요청했다.

안 후보는 또한 태권도가 단순한 무도 차원을 넘어 K-컬처의 핵심 자산이자 국가 브랜드임을 강조했다. 그는 “전 세계 213개국에서 태권도를 배우고 있으며, 이는 대한민국의 문화적 위상을 높이는 데 결정적 역할을 해왔다”며 “태권도의 국제적 확산과 위상 정립은 국가 이미지 제고와 직결되는 만큼, 정부가 태권도를 국가 전략 차원에서 바라봐야 한다”고 말했다.

이날 구윤철 장관에게 안 후보는 태권도의 세계적 가치와 국기원의 책임 있는 역할을 설명하며, 정부 차원의 관심과 협력을 요청했다.

특히 태권도원의 활용, 국제대회 지원, 민초 태권도장 운영의 안정화 등 다양한 분야에서 정부가 협력할 수 있는 부분을 면밀히 검토하겠다고 답한 것으로 알려졌다.

안 후보는 면담을 마치며 “저는 태권도장과 지도자의 어려움을 현장에서 누구보다 잘 알고 있다. 태권도장의 생존이 곧 태권도의 미래이고, 이는 결국 대한민국의 위상과도 직결된다”며 “정부와 협력하여 반드시 태권도장 지원 체계를 구축하고, 태권도의 국제적 위상을 높이는 데 앞장서겠다”고 다짐했다.

이번 면담은 안 후보가 국기원 혁신 비전을 실현하기 위해 정부와의 협력을 본격화한 첫걸음이라는 점에서 의미가 크다. 안 후보는 향후에도 각계각층과 소통하며 태권도 발전을 위한 구체적 실행 방안을 제시하겠다는 계획이다.
